Phillip, an American actor who hasn't had much luck, has been living in Japan for seven years, going to auditions, but his biggest success has been his appearance in a popular toothpaste commercial. One day, he’s offered a job at a company called “Family for Hire,” where he has to play unusual roles for ordinary people: to be a “groom” at a wedding, to interview an elderly actor as a “journalist,” and even to become the “dad” of a young schoolgirl. At first, this kind of work seems strange to Philip, but gradually he begins to warm up to the people he’s working with.
