The Postman 1997
The year is 2013. Several decades after a nuclear war and the subsequent collapse of modern civilization, the survivors have settled in scattered groups across the territory of the former United States of America. They are ruled by a tyrant, General Bethlehem. One day, a drifter—who performs Shakespearean plays for an audience in exchange for food and shelter—finds a mailman’s uniform and a bag of letters. He delivers the mail to a neighboring town, bluffing that the U.S. government has been restored, and tricks the residents into feeding him. In this way, he becomes a symbol of hope for the people—giving them the courage to stand up to the tyrant and his army.
