Eat Drink Man Woman 1994

The story takes place in a major Taiwanese city. The older generation in the film is represented by Chu, a widower and head chef at an upscale restaurant. The younger generation consists of his three daughters. One works as a teacher, the second as an assistant director at an airline, and the third at a fast-food joint. They all have different attitudes toward the act of eating. For Chu, it is a beautiful, unhurried ritual, akin to art and a sacred ceremony. For the girls, it’s “fast food”—grab a bite and run off, a quick meal on the go. Their attitudes toward food shape their views on men, children, family, and life in general.
