Edge of Darkness 2010

The main character—Maksim—is a successful advertising executive in St. Petersburg. He is young, handsome, happily married, and has a young daughter. But one day, while driving home from a company party and feeling a little tipsy, Maxim hits a black dog that appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the highway at night; losing control of the car, he veers off the road and crashes into a van parked on the shoulder belonging to Uana, an elderly Romani fortune-teller. When he comes to after the accident, Maxim learns that the fortune-teller has died, he is accused of involuntary manslaughter, and there is not a trace of the black dog on the road. But the strange events don’t end there. Maxim begins to have prophetic dreams, which he ignores for the time being. An expensive lawyer provided by Maxim’s firm brilliantly wins the case, but as he exits the courthouse, Maxim runs into an old Romani man named Alexian, the husband of the deceased fortune-teller. Alexian tells Maxim that Uana was not just a fortune-teller, but a fairy who saved people’s lives, and now, as retribution for his misdeed, Maxim will have to take her place—otherwise, those close to him will die.
