Gran Torino 2008

Retired auto mechanic Walt Kowalski spends his days fixing things around the house, sipping beer, and visiting the barber once a month. And although his recently deceased wife’s last wish was for him to go to confession, Walt—a hardened Korean War veteran who always keeps his rifle at the ready—has, for the most part, nothing to confess. Besides, there’s no one he trusts as completely as he trusts his dog, Daisy. All the people he once called his neighbors have either moved away or passed away, and they’ve been replaced by immigrants whom he frankly despises. Resenting literally everything his gaze falls upon—crooked window sills, overgrown lawns, and the faces of foreigners everywhere; aimlessly loitering gangs of teenagers—Hmong, Latinos, and African Americans—who believe the whole world belongs to them alone; and the immature outsiders his own children and grandchildren have turned into—Walt simply lives out the rest of his life at a leisurely pace.
