Rupert Papkin, a tireless loser, is convinced that he is destined to be a brilliant comedian. Despite his complete lack of talent, he knows for certain that undying fame as a brilliant showman awaits him. All it takes is one performance in front of an audience—and he’ll be a star. Deciding to start his career at the very top, Rupert hounds Jerry Langford, the most popular host of “The Evening Show,” to let him perform on his program. But the legendary comedian wants nothing to do with this self-assured hack.
