Commander Adams and his crew must uncover the fate of the Earth colony in the Altair IV system, which stopped communicating several years ago. After a year-long journey, the ship lands on the planet, where they find two survivors—the philologist Morbius and his daughter Altair. Morbus insists that everyone leave the planet immediately, but the commander decides to stay. That same night, several people meet a gruesome death.
