Duanel takes a job at a detective agency, where he botches every case he is assigned to investigate. He finally gets the opportunity to demonstrate his "technical aptitude" by properly wrapping a shoe box in a store. Duanel must find out why the store owner, Mr. Tabard, feels that someone hates him and whether there is a conspiracy against him. One day, late for work, Duanel meets Fabienne, Tabard's wife, and becomes involved in a love affair with her.
