The Help 2011

The American South, the 1960s. Skeeter has just graduated from college and is returning home to the sleepy town of Jackson, where nothing ever happens. She dreams of becoming a writer and breaking out into the big wide world. But it’s not proper for a decent Southern girl to entertain such foolish illusions; a decent girl should get married and take care of the household. Wise Aibileen is thirty years older than Skeeter; she has worked as a maid in white households her entire life, raised seventeen children, and has long since given up on life, for her heart was broken after the death of her only son. Minny is the best cook in all of Jackson, and she’s also the sassiest maid in town. Her sharp tongue has gotten her into trouble more than once. Minnie never stays in one place for very long. But even the most arrogant white ladies are better off not crossing her. These two Black maids and an inexperienced white girl have one thing in common—a keen sense of justice and a desire to change the status quo in any way they can. Can these three stand up to the whole world? Will they manage to survive this struggle?
