Heaven's Gate 1980

Wyoming, 1890. In Johnson County, Sheriff James Everill tries to protect European immigrant farmers from the encroachments of wealthy landowners, who hire James’s friend, the gunman Nathan Champion, to intimidate and even murder the settlers. Realizing that threats alone won’t stop the newcomers, the local bigwigs receive informal approval from the authorities to carry out a mass killing of the immigrants and begin assembling a band of mercenaries.
