This is a story of impossible love in impossible times. They meet amid the ruins of postwar Poland. With different backgrounds and contrasting personalities, they seem completely incompatible. And yet, they cannot escape each other. Over the years, they part ways and find each other again and again—in Berlin, Yugoslavia, and Paris… Politics, the vicissitudes of fate, and their own shortcomings stand in the way of their love, but nothing can sever the bond between their two hearts.
