Being There 1979

Washington. Chance, a gardener who has spent his entire life tending the garden and watching TV, finds himself out of work after his employer passes away. Knowing the outside world only through television shows and his interactions with Louise, the Black cook, he takes his first tentative steps into a world that is unfamiliar to him. Soon, Chance is run over by the limousine of Eve Rand, the wife of financier Benjamin Rand, and ends up at their home. Eve and Ben mistake the gardener—dressed in his former employer’s old, expensive clothes—for a well-mannered and educated businessman.
