Julia, a young student from a well-to-do Norwegian family, is embarking on her adult life, hoping to become a doctor. Her defining traits are restlessness and introspection. Yulia doesn’t let any event or experience pass her by; she questions her own values and those of others and lives in a state of constant inner conflict. After her first few months of study, she decides that psychology appeals to her far more than medicine—and then becomes fascinated by writing, photography, and publishing. The film is divided into 12 consecutive chapters: Yulia changes careers and lovers, experiences long-term relationships and fleeting infatuations, adapts to new circumstances, and discovers different facets of her personality.
