Japan, early 20th century. At the behest of a Buddhist priest, the daughter of one of the Japanese emperor’s favorites is to become a nun at a Buddhist temple. Her father, who had just returned from Europe, where people determine their own destinies, did not dare to order his daughter around and allowed her to make her own choice. When this news reaches the emperor, he sends a sword to the man who broke with tradition; as a sign of submission to the emperor, the father of the unfortunate daughter is obliged to commit seppuku... Meanwhile, the girl was forced to undergo the initiation rite for service at the temple. An unexpected encounter with an officer from Europe disrupts the routine of her life...
